LaSalle Agri began its journey 15 years ago, prompted by our owner David Buurma’s father Harry Buurma's entry into the agricultural sector when an opportunity arose involving biosolids as fertilizers. Harry, joined by his sons David and Roger, recognized the challenges posed by regulations governing biosolid applications, particularly concerning heavy metal testing and application restrictions near residential areas.
Seeing a need for organic matter-rich and micronutrient-rich alternatives to manure in farming, Harry seized the opportunity to utilize biosolids, despite the setbacks. Initially, the product, which was being produced by the city of Windsor, was handled by another distributor unsatisfactorily, leading Harry to propose taking over the responsibility entirely. This bold move secured LaSalle Agri's contract with the City of Windsor, which is still held today, ensuring full control over the distribution and application of the nutrient-rich biosolids.
Over time, Harry stepped back from the family business and David and Roger refined the process, enhancing the product's nutrient concentration significantly. This transformation not only elevated the fertilizer’s agricultural value but also minimized waste destined for landfills, aligning with environmental sustainability goals. Recognizing the economic and ecological benefits, operations were expanded, supplying the enhanced biosolid product to an increasing number of local farmers.
Our product stands out for its high organic matter content and comprehensive nutrient profile, effectively replenishing the soil with essential micronutrients and organic matter crucial for plant growth. LaSalle Agri's commitment to quality and environmental stewardship is evident in our substantial impact within the agricultural community of Southwestern Ontario.
Anticipating further growth, we are set to surpass 100,000 tons of product distributed, solidifying our position as a significant player in Ontario's fertilizer industry. Our collaborative efforts with regulatory bodies underscore our dedication to compliance and responsible agricultural practices, ensuring continued support for our valued customers.
